Zamarin, the oldest neighborhood in Zichron Yaakov is located on a high hill at the edge of the northeastern cliff and overlooks the historic Carmel Winery. Even though it is somewhat remote and isolated it is only a few minutes’ walk from the center of the Moshava. Zmarin is unique both in appearance and in character. At its entrance stands a square planted with mulberry trees decorated with large green leaves and abundant sweet fruit planted by the first settlers of Zichron Ya’akov in 1882 who built their homes on the hill that was purchased from the vice consul of France who was a Christian Arab from Haifa. Numerous archaeological remains were discovered on the hill, indicating the area had been inhabited since ancient times. Along the cobbled streets of this charming hill, old stone houses with arches and wooden shutters overlook a spectacular mountain view. Givat Zamarin is decorated with plants and flowers, and it houses unique workshops as well as a luxury restaurant.
